USA Reining approves competition in the following divisions of the sport:
- Youth 13 & Under, 14-18, 19-21
- Amateur
- Open

Please see further definition of each below to determine your best division.

Youth
Built to foster and develop young riders in our sport, the three subdivisions by age allow for subsets of the Youth division to fairly contest at USA Reining approved competitions.  Youth divisions are specifically designed to match USEF Youth divisions because most, if not all USA Reining and USEF competitions will be dualy sanctioned.

The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) is the National Governing Body for Equestrian Sport in the United States of America.  At USA Reining events, we are happy to offer USEF Youth Qualifying Classes.  USEF Youth Qualifying classes help junior and young riders qualify for the US National Championship held annually in the three age divisions (13 & Under, 14-18, 19-21).  Competing at the USA Reining and USEF National Championship is the pinnacle of sport and the honor of being titled as the National Champion is the highest honor in our sport.

Requirements to compete in USEF Youth Qualifying classes include USEF Annual Membership for the athlete and USEF Horse Recording of the competing horse.  Both of which can be accomplished by clicking the links included here, and should be accomplished prior to arriving at the show.  However, we will have memberships on-hand for an up-charge as required by the USEF for the convenience of on-site membership services.

Additionally, membership in USA Reining for horse and rider is required.  Click Here for athlete membership, and Click Here for horse recording.

The Federation Equestre International (FEI) is the International Governing Body for Equestrian Sport globally.  Young Riders who wish to compete at the International level in the sport can access FEI-level Reining through qualifying for and competing at the FEI North American Junior and Young Rider Championships which include multiple disciplines and premier-level riders from throughout North America.  The United States holds an Official Selection Trial annually to qualify young athletes to compete on behalf of the USA.  Currently, athletes are also able qualify instead by merit if they cannot make it the selection trial.  Riders who attend USEF Youth Qualifying Classes can be placed on teams for the USA based on region, or in some cases the breed of horse they ride.  However, riders who attend the Official Selection Trial are always given priority in placement on USA teams.

More information about USEF and FEI programs for youth and young riders can be found by Clicking Here.

Amateur
USA Reining is proud to support a new fully recognized division for the sport of Reining.  Amateurs, as defined by USEF rules are eligible to compete in USA Reining approved events and earn points towards year-end awards and compete for USA Reining National Champion titles.

Click Here for a definition of Amateur according to the National Governing Body and for information on Amateur Certification and Hearing Process.

Amateur competitors are additionally able to show at high performance levels without ownership requirements (as indicated by both USEF and FEI rules).  To that end, Amateurs are highly encouraged to compete, qualify and attend international high performance competitions, representing the United States of America.

Open
Open to any rider who is a senior active competitor, the Open Division is the highest level of the sport competitively and the most acclaimed to conquer.  Similar to Amateur competitions in it's structure, but vastly different in the makeup of the athletes, Open divisions are the sport's most elite horses and riders.

Athletes hoping to gain acclaim for the sport of Reining need look no further than USA Reining as the source.  One championship can propel an athlete's reputation to a household name and fill any breeding program's stallion booking.

Not only does USA Reining offer year end awards and national championship titles, it provides a gateway for excellence on the national stage, the first step towards international high performance fame for athlete and horse alike.

Riders are required to be members in good standing of USA Reining and of the USEF to compete.  Additionally, riders must be registered with the FEI if they are competing at the international high performance level.  For additional information on requirements for all athletes and riders at various levels of the sport, please see the chart below.

As the industry once again begins to set it's sights on our sport's next World Championship, USA Reining provides athletes with World Equestrian Games dreams a clear path to qualification and success - representing the United States on the world's stage.  Open riders should begin the qualifying process as soon as possible to acheive all required criteria and certification.  The structure and staff at USA Reining are established to assist in this effort in whatever way possible.
